NIA raids at PFI premises, Arrests Hundred

On Thursday morning, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at the Popular Front of India (PFI) offices across several states.

As part of a comprehensive campaign against PFI, the anti-terror agency conducted operations in ten states, including Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

More than one hundred senior PFI officers and leaders were detained as a result of the national operations. The raids were conducted in concert by the NIA, Enforcement Directorate (ED), and state police.

The state with the most arrests was Kerala (22), then Maharashtra (20), Karnataka (20), Andhra Pradesh (5), Assam (9), Delhi (3), Madhya Pradesh (4), Puducherry (3), Tamil Nadu (10), Uttar Pradesh (8), and Rajasthan (3). (2).

As part of what is regarded to be the "biggest ever" campaign to date, raids and searches are being carried out against persons who are allegedly involved in funding terrorism, managing training camps, and radicalising others to join extremist organisations.

PFI members demonstrated against the arrests in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Tuesday saw 38 locations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh searched by the anti-terror agency before four PFI personnel were charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

While the ED is investigating a money laundering case, NIA is questioning PFI leaders in connection with a terror related case.
